Meeting 6th January 2011

Members present: 5

Present: Goronwy, Colin, Philip, Huw, Pat, Cerys.

Apologies: David and Nicky, Alan and Bella, Chris, Celia and John, Judy.

Matters Arising from the Minutes of the Last Meeting:

Thanks were expressed to several people:

·        Alan for organising the New Year’s Eve torchlight treasure hunt. It was very well received and enjoyed

by all and it was great to see so many younger people joining in. Thanks to everyone else who contributed

food etc to make it such a success.

·        Claire for donating a Christmas tree for the village once again.

·        Hywel for once again letting the village use his land for the Christmas tree.

·        Nigel for the loan of cables for the tree lights and for repairing them twice when a vehicle broke the cable.

·        David for once again opening the bar on Christmas Day.

·        Colin for buying a new fridge for the kitchen.

Tafarn Cwmdu Ltd report.

No figures to report this month.

Kath’s plan to stand down from the shop at the end of October was discussed. This gives us time to trial some alternative

options inc:

·        Replace like for like – but the time commitment has grown with the increase in business and we would have to

employ someone on more hours. OK if profitability continues to grow but Kath feels that it has plateaued.

·        Kath to remain as Sub post mistress and run the PO only, with other employed / volunteering to run the shop.

·        Go for a completely voluntary option, like most other community shops. Some doubt that we would be able to

attract enough people. Also, it is important that someone takes overall responsibility.

The options and further views will be discussed by a Tafarn Cwmdu Ltd meeting shortly.

In the meantime, Pat volunteered to help out by shopping once a week. Cerys volunteered to help out in the shop one day a

week. Philip will report back to Kath.
