Pam Gafodd ei ffurfio?

Why has it been formed?

Mae pobl o'r tu fewn a'r tu allan i Gwmdu yn aml wedi dweud bod gan Gwmdu rywbeth arbennig iawn. Cafodd Cymdeithas Cwmdu ei ffurfio, felly, i sicrhau cydlyniaeth o fewn y gymuned i gadw'r rhinweddau arbennig hyn, trwy gynnal y dafarn, y siop a'r swyddfa bost fel cyfleusterau cymunedol gwerthfawr. Ers i'r teras ailagor % mlynedd yn ol, cafodd y cyfleusterau hyn eu mwynhau gan nifer o bobl ac maent wedi bod yn sbardun i lawer o weithgareddau cymdeithasol. Yr anhawster yw bod y 'busnes' ar ai orau yn fregus ac mae nifer uchel o denantiaid wedi bod yno. Daw pob newid ag ansicrwydd a'r angen i ailsefydlu'r cysylltiadau rhwng 'y gymuned' a'r tenantiaid newydd. Credir bod gwell siawns o sicrhau dilyniad drwy weithredu ar y cyd, a hefyd i ddangos i'r Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol y gwerth mae'r gymuned yn rhoi ar y teras.

People from within and outside Cwmdu have often remarked that Cwmdu has something very special, Cymdeithas Cwmdu has therefore been formed to ensure a co-ordinated approach within the community to maintain this special quality, by sustaining the pub, shop and post office as valuable community facilities. Since the terrace reopened five years ago these facilities have been enjoyed by many people and have been the catalyst for much social activity. The difficulty is that the 'business' is at best fragile, and there has been a high turnover of tenants. Each turnover brings uncertainty and the need to re establish links between 'the community' and the new tenants. It is felt that by collective action, there is a better chance of ensuring continuity, and also in demonstrating to the National Trust the value that the community places on the terrace.
