On 7th June 2003 a small group from the
Llandeilo area set out on a nine day trek around Wales.
Their aim was to raise £15,000 for Cancer Research UK Cymru, and to
raise awareness of the need for early detection. The 740 mile
journey was undertaken on a 1957 International BWD6 which had been
restored over the last four years.
Goodyear supplied a new set of tyres for the tractor. 'Old
Glory' vintage magazine did a photo-shoot and carried an article about
the trek. Holwills Oils provided Oil and Diesel for the tractor.
Several local firms sponsored the promotional signs and other smaller
items, and the FUW gave it's full support.
The Trek was started at Llandeilo by the radio and TV presenter Roy
Noble, together with media coverage from television, radio and
newspapers.
Raffle tickets were sold beforehand and along the route.
The final sum raised amounted to a grand total of
£17.225 which
was presented to Cancer Research Cymru.
The organizers would like to thank everyone who
contributed to this exciting event.
